RESOLUTION NO. 643
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT
WITH KING COUNTY FOR THE PURPOSE OF ACCEPTING
GRANT MONIES FOR THE RENOVATION OF THE TUKWILA/
SOUTHGATE COMMUNITY CENTER.
WHEREAS, King County did in the 1977 program year authorize
$64,118,to the City of Tukwila of its population monies for the purpose
of renovating the Thorndyke facility for a senior activity center; and,
WHEREAS, after development of architectural drawings and
bid specifications, all bids came in significantly higher than the money
budgeted; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Tukwila decided the
benefits of the costs involved in renovating the Thorndyke facility did not
outweigh the costs; and,
WHEREAS, the City has negotiated a combination sale /lease
agreement with the South Central School District for the former Southgate
Elementary School for the purpose of using it as a community center, with
the senior program to be a primary part of that; and,
WHEREAS, the King County Council has reallocated the monies
remaining from the Thorndyke facility for the City of Tukwila to use in
the renovation of the Southgate Elementary School for similar purposes
to the former Thorndyke facility; and,
WHEREAS, the Tukwila City Council is supportive of receiving
the H &CD monies from King County for the purposes of renovating the former
Southgate Elementary School, now referred to as the Tukwila /Southgate
Community Center.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The Mayor is authorized to sign all necessary
contracts with King County to assure that the City of Tukwila will
receive the funds for renovation of the Tukwila /Southgate Community
Center for purposes consistent with the former grant allocation
to the Thorndyke facility.
Section 2. The Mayor is authorized to take all other
actions necessary to impl.ement the construction phases subject
to reviews by the City Council consistent with the City's
bidding procedures.
