APPLICATION SUBMITTAL In order to ensure that your application is accepted for plan review, please make sure to fill out the
application completely and follow the plan submittal checklist on the reverse side of this form. Handouts are available at
the Building counter which provide more detailed information on application and plan submittal requirements.
Application and plans must be complete in order to be accepted for plan review.
VALUATION OF CONSTRUCTION Valuation for new construction and additions are calculated by the Department of
Community Development prior to application submittal. Contact the Permit Coordinator at 431 -3670 prior to submitting
application. In all cases, a valuation amount should be entered by the applicant. This figure will be reviewed and is
subject to possible revision by the Building Division to comply with current fee schedules.
BUILDING OWNER / AUTHORIZED AGENT If the applicant is other than the owner, registered architectengineer, or contractor
licensed by the State of Washington, a notarized letter from the property owner authorizing the agent to submit this
permit application and obtain the permit will be required as part of this submittal.
EXPIRATION OF PLAN REVIEW Applications for which no permit is issued within 180 days following the date of application shall
expire by limitations. The building official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a period not exceeding 180
days upon written request by the applicant as defined in Section 304(d) of the Uniform Building Code (current edition).
No application shall be extended more than once.

1. New walls shall be constructed in accordance with the requirements for a Type V,
1 -Hr. construction as prescribed in the Uniform Building Code. Interior partitions may be
of the following constructions:
Table No. 43 -B, Item 16 -1.2 : 2 x 4 wood studs 16" on center with two layers 1/2"
regular gypsum wallboard applied vertically or horizontally each side, joints staggered.
Nail base layer with 5d cooler or wallboard nails at 8" on center, face layer with 8d cooler
or wallboard nails at 8" on center.
Table No. 43 -B, Item 16 -1.3 : 2x4" wood studs 24" on center with 5/8" Type X gypsum
wallboard applied vertically or horizontally nailed with 6d cooler or wallboard nails at 7"
on center with end joints on nailing members. Stagger joints each side.
OR: An alternate "Listed" fire assembly may be submitted for approval .
2. Every sleeping room below the fourth story shall have at least one operable window or
door approved for emergency escape or rescue which shall open directly into a public
street, public alley, yard or exit court. The units shall be operable from the inside to
provide a full clear opening without the use of separate tools. All escape or rescue
windows shall have a minimum net clear openable area of 5.7 square feet. The
minimum net clear openable height dimension shall be 24 inches. The minimum net
clear openable width dimension shall be 20 inches. Finish sill height shall be not
more than 44- inches above the floor.
3. Door marked "E" provides access to a change in use. Consequently, this door
must provide a 20 minute fire resistive rating and shall be equipped with self - closing
hardware and smoke & draft control gaskets. Entrance door shall have a keyed single -
cylinder, 1 -inch deadbolt lock. The dead bolt lock shall be so constructed that the
deadbolt lock may be opened from inside without use of a key. Interior corridor doors
shall have a visitor observation port, which port shall not be in excess of 1/2 inch in
diameter.
The herein noted requirements are conditions of plan review and final inspection
approval. Compliance shall be subject to field inspection by Tukwila Building
Division.

Dear Cindy:
As requested .I met with Darrell Owen of your office cn September 14, 1994 at the site
above. The purpose of that visit was to determine what type of repair would be requ the
glu -lam beam and floor joist in which holes were drilled for piping and venting, The area where
the holes were drilled occur in the ceiling of the present recreation room which is being converted
to an apartment.. 1t is my understanding that the 5 inch diameter hole in t e glu-larn was placed at
.:.c:,t a year ago..,;.The'2 inch diameter hole in the floor ,joist were installed recently.
the glu -lam beam shows no signs of distress in the area adjacent to the drilled hole. The wall
beneath the beam is carrying 'Some loading Because of the as -built conditions and the fact that
no distress was observed, I would recommend no repairs. The 2x10 floor joist in which the 2
inch diameter hole was drilled spans only 9 felt. Sufficient wood section exist above the hole to
carry the loads that will be imposed on the beam. 1 would install a plywood stiffener on one side
of the joist as shown on the enclosed detail,
