A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, TAKING A POSITION
OF OPPOSITION TO INITIATIVE 747, AN ACT
RELATING TO LIMITING PROPERTY TAX INCREASES.
WHEREAS, on November 6, 2001, citizens will vote on Initiative 747, a measure to
limit property tax increases, and
WHEREAS, it is the role of the elected City Council in a representative government to
make decisions regarding appropriate fees for programs and services in the City, and
WHEREAS, if I -747 passes, Tukwila will lose approximately $187,000 in 2002, with
increased losses each year into the foreseeable future while the need for City services will
not decrease, and
WHEREAS, the City Council has carefully considered the implications and known
impacts of I -747, and weighed them against the desires of the citizens to lower their taxes,
and believes the initiative to be contrary to the best interests of the City of Tukwila and the
services and programs provided to its residents and business community; and
WHEREAS, police and fire services, parks, recreation, and community center services,
street and road maintenance, and neighborhood revitalization programs could all be
affected by the required budget cuts if the initiative were passed,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS.
The City Council of the City of Tukwila takes an official position in opposition to I -747, the
Initiative to Limit Property Taxes
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNQjL OF THE TY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, at a
Regular Meeting thereof this day of a 2001
