A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR
THE CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT RACIAL JUSTICE, AND
FOR THE OBSERVANCE OF SEPTEMBER 19, 2001 AS
"RACE EQUALITY DAY."
WHEREAS, Tukwila's population includes people from many cultures, races and countries,
who all contribute to the cultural richness and diversity of our City; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council are committed to help ensure that the City of Tukwila
is a place where harassment, intimidation, discrimination and violence are not acceptable; and
WHEREAS, supporting racial justice includes working against discrimination in housing,
employment, education, public accommodations, and promoting inclusiveness in all domains of
community life; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila chooses to be an accepting, fair, and non discriminatory city
where people of all colors, creeds, nationalities, and cultures can thrive together as one community,
and encourages it citizens to join in a campaign to promote racial justice; and
WHEREAS, the National League of Cities has designated September 19, 2001 as Race Equality
Day;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
The Mayor and City Council hereby proclaim that Tukwila wholeheartedly supports the
Campaign to Promote Racial Justice; declare September 19, 2001 as Race Equality Day in Tukwila; and
urge all citizens in Tukwila to join together to support this effort.
