AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1560 AS CODIFIED AT
SECTION 2.36.020 OF THE TUKWILA MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO
MEMBERSHIP OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Tukwila Planning Commission is currently engaged in review of the
Tukwila Tomorrow Committee recommendations and draft Comprehensive Plan, the adoption
of said Plan being required by the state Growth Management Act; and
WHEREAS, review of the draft Comprehensive Plan is a major effort that is projected for
completion by the end of 1995; and
WHEREAS, membership on the Planning Commission is currently limited only to City
residents; and
WHEREAS, the City Council and Mayor agree that it is desirable to have continuity and
consistency in the Comprehensive Plan effort, and that there may be other projects in the future
for which the same kind of continuity and consistency would be desirable; and
WHEREAS, there are members sitting on the Planning Commission who have been a part
of the Comprehensive Plan review from its inception, but would be precluded from membership
on the Commission according to the current provisions of the Tukwila Municipal Code;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Membership. Ordinance No. 1560 as codified at Section 2.36.020 of the Tukwila
Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
2.36.020 Membership.
Planning Commission members shall reside within the corporate limits of the City on the
day of appointment to the Planning Commission. Members shall be selected from a cross section
of the residential and business community representing different occupations, trades, activities
and geographical areas, in order to provide a balanced community spirit. Any member may
have their term of office extended for a period of time not to exceed six (6) months to complete a
special project when such extension is nominated by the Mayor and approved by the City
Council. Members who become nonresidents during their term of office shall remain on the
Commission no more than ninety (90) days unless granted a special project extension' by the
Mayor and City Council.
Section 2. Severability. If any section, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance should
be held to be invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity or
unconstitutionality shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of any other section, sentence,
clause or phrase of this ordinance.

Section 3. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect five (5) days after passage and
publication of the attached summary which is hereby approved.

On LUcf flf the City Council of the City of Tukwila passed Ordinance
No. /73d modifying terms for appointments to the Planning Commission; providing
for severability and establishing an effective date.
