ORDINANCE NO. 1 �6
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1234 AND SETTING TESTING FEES
FOR FILING CIVIL SERVICE APPLICATIONS.
WHEREAS, the Tukwila Civil Service Commission feels it is in the best
interest of the City to charge a testing fee for entry level Fire and Police
Department applicants, and
WHEREAS, this procedure will encourage only those who are seriously
seeking a career with the Tukwila Fire or Police Departments to apply, and
WHEREAS, for anyone unable to pay the fee an indigent waiver will be
provided.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Testing Fees. Section 1 of Ordinance No. 1234, passed by
the City Council on October 21, 1981, is hereby amended to read as follows:
The Tukwila Civil Service Commission is authorized to provide, by
rule, for the charging of a fee, in an amount necessary to cover actual costs
of testing, to each applicant for a position within the Police or Fire
Department covered by Civil Service. Such rule shall provide for the waiver
of fees in cases of economic hardship or indigency.
Section 2. Council Review. Every three years the City Council shall
review the fees being charged for Civil Service tests in order to ensure that
those fees do not prevent an adequate number of applicants from taking the
tests.
Section 3. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect and be
in full force five (5) days after its passage and publication as provided by
law.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, at a
regular meeting thereof this day of 1987.
