HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 1431 - Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance Benefits for Councilmembers (Repealed by Ord 1851) ww t CITY OF TUMILA WASHINGTO N p m ca� 6T, ORDINANCE NO. /'7` g/ b37 5 7 0042.130.022 JEH /gg 05/27/87 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, AMENDING SECTION 2.04.230 OF THE TUKWILA MUNICIPAL CODE TO PROVIDE MEDICAL, DENTAL, VISION CARE AND LIFE INSURANCE BENEFITS TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS WHOSE TERM OF OFFICE COMMENCES AFTER THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE. WHEREAS, the City Council has studied the feasibility of making Council members eligible to receive medical, dental, vision care and life insurance benefits similar to those received by City employees, and WHEREAS, because of applicable plan restrictions, the City Council has determined that it is impractical for City Council members to join the benefit plans participated in by the employees in the reasonable future, and WHEREAS, in an effort to approximate such benefits, the City Council has determined to provide for the reimbursement of medical, dental, vision care and life insurance premiums, deductibles and expenses for City Council members up to a maximum amount, now, therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Council Compensation. Section 2.04.230 of the Tukwila Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: 2.04.230 Compensation. Pursuant to the provisions of RCW 35A.12.070, each member of the City Council of the City of Tukwila whose term of office commences on or after the effective date of Ordinance No. 1354, shall be compensated at the rate of $400.00 per month. In addition, each member of the City Council whose term of office commences on or after the effective date of Ordinance No. /4/3/ shall be eligible to receive reimbursement from the City for medical, dental, vision care and life insurance premiums, deductibles, and expenses incurred by the member, up to a maximum amount of $1,200.00 in any calendar year. Reimbursement shall be made only upon presentation of a receipt or other evidence that the expense was actually -1- JEH000980 incurred to the Finance Director. All reimbursement payments made under this Section shall be a fringe benefit accruing to the member by virtue of employment with the City and shall not be considered part of the member's salary or wages. Section 2. Severability. If any section, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance should be held to be invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity or unconstitutionality shall not effect the validity or constitutionality of any other section, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance. Section 3. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force five (5) days after publication of the attached summary which is hereby approved.
