Ordinance No.
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, AMENDING SECTION 2.04.230
OF THE TUKWILA MUNICIPAL CODE, FIXING THE
AMOUNT OF COMPENSATION FOR CITY COUNCIL
MEMBERS; REPEALING ORDINANCE NOS. 1707 AND 1851;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND ESTABLISHING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the time commitment required to be an effective Council member has greatly
increased in the past several years, and City Council stipends have remained relatively low,
considering the time and energy required to effectively represent the City; and
WHEREAS, a comparison of city council stipends within the region shows that Tukwila
Council stipends fall below the mean compensations of many Puget Sound cities used for
comparison of Tukwila wages for employees; and
WHEREAS, as Tukwila is allied by location, similar employee bases, and close working
relationships with the cities of Renton, Auburn, Kent and Federal Way who are all members
with Tukwila in Valley Communications, it is reasonable to use those cities' council stipends as
a guide for setting the Tukwila Council's stipend; and
WHEREAS, the stipend should be reviewed every two years to ensure it is at the level
commensurate with the job;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
