Dear Barney: •
In reviewing the above mentioned project plans, please note the
following items: '
1. Under -stair areas shall be protected on the under
,side' as. required for one -hour fire - resistive
. construction.
2. All doors, including exits shall be identified per
OSHA, Section 1910.37 (q). (Exit signs shall have
letters 6 inches high.
Per UFC Seca 10.104(b), "All doors in or leading to
exits shall be maintained openable from the inside
without the use of a key or any special knowledge or .
effort at all times when the building or area served
thereby is occupied "..
Hose stations are required per City Ordinance #730.
5. Fire extinguishers shall be provided per NFPA #10,'
as a minimum requirement.
When, in the opinion of the Fire Prevention Bureau;
building contents or operations therein are of a
hazardous nature, additional. extinguishers (inexcess
of NFPA' requirements) may be required.
Fire hydrants are required as detailed in Ordinance #729.
In order for this facility to be classed as F- 1 /F -2,
no welding is allowed. Also, no use or storage of
highly flammable liquids is permitted.
$.' All electrical outlets shall be not less than 1$
inches above the finished floor.

9. Requirements for underground gasoline and diesel tanks
and pumps are as follows:
A. The tank shall be located not less than 1 foot
from any building foundation. The tank shall be
covered.with not less than 1$ inches of well
tamped earth or sand, then by at least 6 inches of
reinforced concrete. The concrete shall extend not
less than 1 foot, horizontally, beyond the tank in
all directions. The tank shall be surrounded by
well- tamped sand or soft earth.
An emergency electrical shut -off shall be located
between 15 and 75 feet from the dispenser. This
switch shall be conspicuously . labeled.
c. A 20 B -C dry chemical extinguisher shall be located
not more than 75 feet from the dispenser.
d. Signs with 4 inch high letters shall be posted at
the dispenser stating: "NO SMOKING, SHUT OFF YOUR
MOTOR".
e., A break- away /fusible link shall be, installed at
ground level in the supply line if a pressure - delivery
type of pump is installed.
f. The tank and vents shall withstand a pressure of 4 psi.
Supply piping and the dispenser shall withstand a
pressure test of 35 psi or 150% of the pump delivery
pressure (whichever is greater). These two • tests
are to be conducted before the pipes are covered.
This department shall witness both tests. Call us
at 244 -7221 when the test is on.
g. All electrical work shall be per the National Elec-
trical Code, Class I, Division I. Inspection by
the State Electrical Inspector is required.
h. Vent pipes shall be not less than 12 feet high,
shall vent upwards or horizontally, and shall not
be located so as to allow accumulations of vapor
in or near buildings.
