AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, AMENDING ORDINANCE
NO. 1828, AS CODIFIED AT SECTION 2.29.040 OF THE
TUKWILA MUNICIPAL CODE, TO CHANGE TERMS OF
APPOINTMENT OF THE EQUITY AND DIVERSITY
COMMISSION, IN ORDER TO STAGGER THOSE TERMS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND ESTABLISHING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, when the Equity and Diversity Commission was formally established as a
City Commission, its future as a strong and permanent commission was unknown to some;
and
WHEREAS, since that time, the Equity and Diversity Commission has grown in
attendance, and its mission, goals and necessary work have been more clearly defined by its
members; and
WHEREAS, Commission members have demonstrated a willingness and commitment to
work to promote an understanding of and tolerance of diverse ethnicities and cultures;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Terms of Appointment. Ordinance No. 1828, as codified at Section 2.29.040 of
the Tukwila Municipal Code, is hereby amended to read as follows:
A. Positions 1, 2 and 3 (City Council representative, school board or district
representative, and community member) shall serve an initial term of three years,
after which time those positions will be appointed for two -year terms.
B. Positions 4, 5 and 6 (City representative, school board or district representative, and a
community member who may be business representative) shall be appointed for an
initial term of two years, after which time those positions will be appointed for two
year terms.
C. Positions 7, 8 and 9 (City representative, school board or district representatives, and
a community representative who may be a business representative) shall be
appointed for an initial term of one year, provided that the members shall remain in
office until their successors are appointed and confirmed, after which time those
positions will be appointed for two -year terms.
D. Vacancies occurring other than through the expiration of terms shall be filled for the
remainder of the term of the member being replaced. Vacancies shall be filled in the
same manner as original appointments.
Section 2. Severability. If any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause or phrase
of this ordinance or its application to any person or situation should be held to be invalid or
unconstitutional for any reason by a court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity or
unconstitutionality shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of the remaining portions of
this ordinance or its application to any other person or situation.

Section 3. Effective Date. This ordinance or a summary thereof shall be published in the
official newspaper of the City, and shall take effect and be in full force and effect five (5) days
after passage and publication as provided by law.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, at a
Regular Meeting thereof this 7 day of 1999.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, AMENDING ORDINANCE
NO. 1828, AS CODIFIED AT SECTION 2.29.040 OF THE
TUKWILA MUNICIPAL CODE, TO CHANGE TERMS OF

COMMISSION, IN ORDER TO STAGGER THOSE TERMS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND ESTABLISHING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
On 7/9 9- the City Council of the City of Tukwila passed
Ordinance No. 7/ amending Ordinance No. 1828 to change terms of
appointment of the Equity and Diversity Commission, in order to stagger those terms;
providing for severability; and establishing an effective date.
The full text of this ordinance will be mailed without charge to anyone who
submits a written request to the City Clerk of the City of Tukwila for a copy of the text.
