ORDINANCE NO 973
REPEALED BY 1198
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Office Created:
There is hereby created an office of Community Development and
Planning in and for the City as a separate operating department to include
three divisions; building, planning and parks and recreation, as identified
in a later section of this chapter, as well as any other related duties or functions
as may be assigned by the Mayor from time to time.

AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING AN OFFICE OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
AND PLANNING AND REVISING SECTION 2.12.020 OF THE TUKWILA
MUNICIPAL CODE, CHAPTER 2.12.
Section 2. Office of Director Created:
There is created the position of Community Development and Planning
Director in and for the City. The Director shall be appointed by the Mayor
subject to confirmation of the Council. The Director shall be responsible
for the performance and operation of all the duties assigned to the department.
Section 3. Duties of the Department:
The Department of Community Development and Planning shall perform
the following duties in the most effective and efficient manner possible as
determined by the Director using the policies as handed down by the Mayor and
City Council:
(a) Development and recommendations for updating of the Advanced
Plans, laws required by State law, and related implementing ordinances;
(b) Enforcement and public information involving the land use,
building, and related codes;
(c) Develop and implement a park and recreation program to meet
the needs of the community; subject to the recommendation of the Park Board.
(d) Serve in an advisory capacity to Boards and Commissions of the

The City Council will authorize the necessary positions in the
department which will enable the department to provide the community with the
level of service as specified above.
Section S. Compensation:
The Community Development and Planning Director and all positions
shall receive such salary and in such amount as the Council may, from time to
time, establish by ordinance and as fixed by the City's annual budget.

Section 6. Duties:
Section 2.12.020 of the Tukwila Municipal Code is hereby revised
to read as follows:
Subject to the direction of the Mayor, the Director of Public Works
shall perform the following duties:
(a) He shall have charge of construction, maintenance, repair and
cleaning of the streets, sidewalks, gutters, sewers and drains, and such
other related activities;
(b) He shall exercise general supervision over the municipal water
and sewer system;
(c) He shall exercise general supervision over the maintenance of
the municipal parks.
(d) He shall exercise general supervision over equipment, repair and
rental of all city vehicles.
