AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
r I GI TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, FORMALLY ADOPTING A MODEL
FOR GRADUALLY INCREASING THE SALARY OF THE POSITION
OF MAYOR OVER A THREE -YEAR PERIOD BEGINNING
JANUARY 1998; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, RCW 35A.12.070 provides that elective officials' salaries are to be set by ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to meet the technical intent of this RCW; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 1351 adopted May 6, 1996 will be repealed; and
WHEREAS, the salary for the position of mayor has increased only by COLA's since the 1970's, and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes an increase in the mayor's salary is needed to reflect the current
time commitment, and
WHEREAS, the responsibilities and time requirements of the position of mayor have increased with the
complexities of city government, and substantial increases in population and assessed valuation,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
HEREBY ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The annual salary for the position of Mayor will be set for the period 1998, 1999 and 2000 as
shown below:
1998 $25,602
1999 $27
2000 $30
Section 2. No cost -of- living increases will be added to the Mayor's salary during the 1998 -2000 period.
Section 3. Severability. If any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause or phrase of this
ordinance or its application to any person or situation should be held to be invalid or unconstitutional for any
reason by a court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity or unconstitutionality shall not affect the validity or
constitutionality of the remaining portions of this ordinance or its application to any other person or situation.
Section 4. Effective Date. This ordinance or a summary thereof shall be published in the official
newspaper of the City, and shall take effect and be in full force and effect five (5) days after passage and
publication as provided by law.

OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, FORMALLY ADOPTING

SALARY OF THE POSITION OF MAYOR OVER A

On J /S/9 7 the City Council of the City of Tukwila passed Ordinance
No. /2' formally adopting a model for gradually increasing the salary of the position of
Mayor over a three -year period beginning January 1998; providing for severability and
establishing an effective date.
The full text of this ordinance will be mailed without charge to anyone who submits a
written request to the City Clerk of the City of Tukwila for a copy of the text.
