AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, ADDING A NEW SECTION
TO CHAPTER 9.16 OF THE TUKWILA MUNICIPAL CODE
ESTABLISHING A SPEED LIMIT OF 25 MPH ON SOUTH
124TH STREET, 42ND AVENUE SOUTH AND 50TH PLACE
SOUTH; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Chapter 9.12 of the Tukwila Municipal Code adopts the Washington
Model Traffic Ordinance by reference; and
WHEREAS, RCW 46.61.400 and RCW 46.61.415 of the Washington Model Traffic
Ordinance enable the City of Tukwila to establish speed limits on City streets and
arterials; and
WHEREAS, South 124th Street from 42nd Avenue South to 50th Place South, 42nd
Avenue South from Interurban Avenue to South 115th Street, and 50th Place South
from South 124th Street to the East City limit are functionally classified as collector
arterials; and
WHEREAS, South 124th Street, 42nd Avenue and 50th Place South predominately
serve the residential area of Allentown and the new Tukwila Community Center; and
WHEREAS, pedestrian traffic is expected to increase along and crossing these
arterials; and
WHEREAS, school bus stops are made on South 124th Street and 42nd Avenue
South;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY ORDAINS AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. New TMC Section Created. A new Section 9.16.060 of the Tukwila
Municipal Code is hereby created to read as follows:
9.16.060. South 124th Street, 42nd Avenue South, and 50th Place South.
A 25 MPH speed limit is established on certain collector arterials as follows:
(a) South 124th Street from 42nd Avenue South to 50th Place South.
(b) 42nd Avenue South from Interurban Avenue to South 115th Street.
(c) 50th Place South from South 124th Street to the East City Limit.
Section 2. Signs to Be Posted. The Public Works Department is hereby directed
to post appropriate speed limit signs reflecting the speed limits established in Section 1
of this ordinance.

Section 3. Severability. If any section, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance
should be held to be invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction,
such invalidity or unconstitutionality shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of
any other section, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance.
Section 4. Effective Date. This ordinance or a summary thereof shall be published
in the official newspaper of the City, and shall take effect and be in full force five (5)
days after passage and publication as provided by law, provided that the speed limits
set forth in Section 1 of this ordinance shall not be effective until appropriate signs are
posted.

On 997 the City Council of the City of Tukwila passed Ordinance
No./ establishing a speed limit reduction on South 124th Street, 42nd Avenue
South and 50th Place South; providing for severability and establishing an effective date.
