Resolution No. 152
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, EXPRESSING OUR APPRECIATION FOR THE
DEDICATION, COMMITMENT, AND RESULTANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
OF JOHN MCFARLAND DURING HIS TENURE AS TUKWILA CITY
ADMINISTRATOR.
WHEREAS, in 1976 John first came to work for the City of Tukwila as an
Administrative Assistant to Mayors Todd and Bauch, and
WHEREAS, after seven years serving as Renton's Personnel Director, he returned as
Tukwila's City Administrator in 1988 and continued his work under Mayors VanDusen,
Rants and Mullet; and
WHEREAS, John has dealt with issues as varied as risk management, real estate
negotiations, Highway 99, Sound Transit, King County Jail negotiations, airport legal
issues, Sister City Committee, Tukwila Village, pool negotiations, bridge sales, and soccer
parks, and
WHEREAS, much of John's time with the City has been spent responding to the issues,
problems and opportunities that arise every day and in every field, requiring skill in
leadership, diplomacy, decision making, working with elected officials and retaining
knowledge about a wide range of subjects, and
WHEREAS, John has faced many difficult issues with an ability to get to the heart of
the problem and resolve it with wit, humor, intelligence, and his ability to work well with
others, and
WHEREAS, he has worked with and earned the respect of City employees, regional
representatives, Tukwila citizens, City Council members and Mayors,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the Mayor and City Council express special thanks and
appreciation to John McFarland for his distinguished public
service in Tukwila, and wish him all the best in his well
deserved retirement.
