Handouts are available at the Building counter which provide more detailed information on application and plan submittal requirements. Application and plans must be complete in order to be accepted for plan review. VALUATION OF CONSTRUCTION Valuation for new construction and additions are calculated by the Department of Community Development prior to application submittal. Contact the Permit Coordinator at 431 -3670 prior to submitting application. In all cases, a valuation amount should be entered by the applicant. This figure will be reviewed and is subject to possible revision by the Building Division to comply with current fee schedules. BUILDING OWNER / AUTHORIZED AGENT It the applicant is other than the owner, registered architect/engineer, or contractor licensed by the State of Washington, a notarized letter from the property owner authorizing the agent to submit this permit application and obtain the permit will be required as part of this submittal. EXPIRATION OF PLAN REVIEW Applications for which no permit is issued within 180 days following the date of application shall expire by limitations. The building official may extend the time for action by the applicant for a period not exceeding 180 days upon written request by the applicant as defined in Section 304(d) of the Uniform Building Code (current edition). No application shall be extended more than once. The total number of fire extinguishers required for your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10B:C) dry chemical type. Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be 75' or less. Marginal Way S. in Tukwila. It has been determined that both of these stands, as they now exist, are structures that require building permits and must be constructed in accordance with the building and any other applicable city codes. Therefore, please be advised you have 30 days, from the date. of this letter, to either apply for building permits or remove the existing structures. To assist you in submitting the applications for a permit, if you decide that is what you want to do, I have enclosed building permit application forms with this letter. Since you are not the owner of the property where the structures are located it will also be necessary that the property owners give written authorization indicating you are acting as their agent in applying for the building permit. These authorizations should be included as part of the application package. Assuming you submit all required information it will take approximately 2 to 3 weeks to process the applications and issue the permits after the applications are received in this office. No further work should be done on the structures until you have been issued legal building permits. The structures you apply for should be designed under the building code criteria for a Group M Occupancy, which would basically be a shed just to cover and protect the espresso cart and operator during normal hours of operation. This type of structure cannot be designed to accommodate any indoor public seating or have any public access to the interior of the structure. For your information, the building code does exempt sheds with a roof area of less than 120 square feet from needing a building permit. All other King County Health Department licensing requirements will still apply as to the actual operation of the espresso stand. The alternative to a Group M Occupancy would be a Group B -2 occupancy, which is the occupancy group for restaurants.
