WE HAVE BEEN IN THIS FIELD FOR 10 YEARS AS SEIZMIC ENGINEERING, BEFORE WHICH I WAS INVOLVED WITH THAT INDUSTRY FOR AN ADDITIONAL 13 YEARS. WE WERE CONTACTED BY THE RACK CONTRACTOR TO CONDUCT SEISMIC ANALYSIS ON THE STORAGE RACKS TO VERIFY ITS COMPLIANCE WITH THE BUILDING CODE. WE GENERATED CALCULATIONS AND COMPONENT DRAWINGS UNDER OUR TITLE BLOCK. THE BUILDING FLOOR PLAN THAT WAS RECEIVED FROM THE CONTRACTOR, SHOWING THE RACK LAYOUT. WE NEVER ASKED AND WE DID NOT CARE AS WE KNOW THAT NO DRAWING IS CONSIDERED BINDING UNLESS IT IS WET STAMPED AND SIGNED. WE FEEL IF MR. Fateen RE: Wilmar Industries Dear Mr. Fateen, I am extremely upset at your lack of professionalism regarding the racking permit submission for Wilmar Industries in Tukwila, WA. I am the Architect who's drawings you used to submit for your permit. You evidently drew directly onto a copy of my document, which still had my title block and signed Architect's seal, and copied that, added your stamp and submitted for the permit. My construction document was only valid for the restroom and new entry stair, but now, by implication, I was going to be the architect of record for your racking. Such is not the case. I learned of your questionable practice from the Tukwila Building Department, which had requested a letter changing the governing Building Code from UBC 91 to UBC 94. You did not have the common courtesy to call me and ask permission to utilize my drawing nor did you even re -trace the document and utilize your own title block. I find this action unethical and potentially illegal. I have cut off my name, title block and stamp to avoid any potential confusion on liability. Any comments or concerns from the Building Department must be addressed to you. Don't ever do this again! Any, comments or concerns from the Building Department must be addressed to, you. Don't ever do this again!
