A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, ESTABLISHING AN ANNUAL
"COMMUNITY PRIDE AWARD" FOR OUTSTANDING
RESIDENTIAL AESTHETICS, DEMONSTRATING ONGOING
CARE AND ATTENTION TO THE APPEARANCE OF THE
HOME AND GROUNDS
WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila is recognized as a place where corporate citizens,
residents, elected officials, and staff work cooperatively to make Tukwila a better place
to live, work and play, and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to formally recognize individuals who have
demonstrated pride in our City through the exceptional upkeep of the exterior of their
residence and surrounding grounds,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Award established.
A. A "Community Pride" award shall be given on an annual basis to a citizen
selected for his /her attractive aesthetic presentation and upkeep of the home and
surrounding grounds at which he/she resides
B Candidates may be nominated by Arts Commissioners, Parks Commissioners,
or City Council Members
C. A "Community Pride" review committee, consisting of one representative from
the Arts Commission, one representative from the Parks Commission and one City
Council representative, will judge nominations on the following criteria.
1 The nominee residence and grounds must be visible from the street.
2. The nominee residence and grounds must have an aesthetic appeal.
3 The nominee residence and grounds must be seasonally maintained.
4 The nominee residence and grounds must enhance the surrounding
environment.
D Nominations for the "Community Pride" award are geared toward
homeowners and/or renters that take pride in the outward appearance of their Tukwila
home through personal dedication to preservation. Residences that utilize the ongoing
services of a professional maintenance company will be excluded from nomination.
E The "Community Pride" award committee will review the nominees and select
one to receive the award. The award recipient shall be chosen by December 31 of each
year

Section 2. Award presentation.
A. The recipient shall be honored with a "surprise' visit to the winning residence
by representatives from the Arts Commission, Parks Commission and /or City Council,
where he /she will be given a gift basket consisting of gift certificates from local Tukwila
vendors including, but not limited to, home improvement centers, nurseries and /or
restaurants
B The winning residence will be spotlighted in the City's Hazelnut community
newsletter
C. The name of each "Community Pride" honoree will be inscribed on a
permanent plaque to be on display in a City facility
