ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
AND FIXING TERMS
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. There is hereby established a Board of
Adjustment composed of five members, all of whom shall be resi-
dents of the City of Tukwila. All such members shall be appointed
by the Mayor, subject to confirmation by a majority vote of the
members of the City Council. The residency requirement may be
waived by majority vote of the City Council.
Section 2. Within thirty days following the adoption
of this Ordinance the Mayor shall appoint, subject to confirmation
by a majority vote of the members of the City Council, qualified
persons to each of five positions, which shall be designated
numerically as positions 1 through 5. Appointees shall hold office
for four -year terms and until their successors are appointed and
qualified; provided that in the initial appointment, the terms
shall be as follows:
Position 1 shall expire December 31, 1974
Position 2 shall expire December 31, 1975
Position 3 shall expire December 31, 1976
Positions 4 and 5 shall expire December 31, 1977.
Vacancies shall be filled in the same manner as the
original appointment for the unexpired term of the particular
position.
Section 3. The Board shall convene and hold its

first business meeting not more than thirty days after
appointments are completed as specified in this Ordinance.
At such first meeting the Board shall select a chairman and
a secretary by a majority vote of its members. The chairman
and secretary shall each serve for a period of one year and
until his or her successor is appointed in the same manner.
The secretary may be a member of the regular City staff and
not a member of the Board.
The Board shall meet at least once a month or more
often as it deems necessary. Special Board meetings may be
called at any time by anythree of its members and upon not
less than 48 hours' notice to its members and the public media
as required by law. A majority of the Board shall constitute
a quorum.
Section 4. In the event a Board member is absent
from three consecutive meetings and unless excused by a majority
vote of the members, the Board shall declare that particular
position vacant and shall so notify the appointing authority.
Section 5. The members of the Board may be removed
by the Mayor, subject to the approval of the Council, for such
causes as he shall deem sufficient, which shall be set forth
in a letter filed with the City Clerk.
Section 6. The Board shall have all the powers and
duties prescribed by law and as the City Council may prescribe
by ordinance from time to time.
