CATERPILLAR' AVR14 AREP EXCITATION SYSTEM The AREP excitation system improves the voltage response of the generator during transient load application, such as motor starting. AREP also provides a sustained short - circuit current for the operation of protective devices. This option requires the standard self- excited generator be replaced by a generator that has been fitted with auxiliary AREP coils. These coils provide excitation power to the AVR, giving both shunt and compound (booster) characteristics. Isolation of the excitation power ensures that regulation is not affected by non - linear . distorting loads. AVR14 is only available on 3 -phase models. www.cat-ElectricPower.com 0 2005 Caterpillar All Rights Reserved. Delivery of equipment will be made to jobsite. 24 hours notice will be given so the contractor can make arrangements for a crane. 2. Work not included as part of the package to be completed by the contractor is as follows: Unloading of the equipment at site and setting it in place Installation of all loose shipped items Exhaust piping and fittings not submitted on All fuel piping & fittings except for flex lines to be installed to engine inlet and outlet Fuel used to fill tanks and used during startup and testing Wiring, conduit, and electrical installation. It is contractors responsibility to pull and terminate all dc control wiring required. Concrete pad (Generator should be a minimum of 5 feet from any structure on all four sides of Generator). 3. The installing contractor is responsible for off loading all equipment at the site. Off loading of the generator set and accessories must be made in an appropriate manner using slings and spreader bars or forklifts as necessary. Any damages incurred during unloading, setting, or during storage of the equipment is the responsibility of the contractor or owner. 4. All mechanical, electrical, and structural connections to equipment must be flexible and separately supported. 5. Carolina Engine's commercial engine service department will conduct a preliminary start-up inspection at time of start-up. They will review a System Startup Checklist with the contractor's representative and note any uncompleted items. All open items and deficiencies must be completed before start-up can be performed to avoid any additional service charges for incomplete installation. If Startup Checklist is not complete at time of Startup. Carolina Tractor will leave job site and customer will be invoiced for Service Representative time. Startup will then have to be rescheduled. 6. The layout of the equipment should be such that the engine oil filler cap, radiator filler cap, air filters, oil filters, fuel filters, batteries, oil drain, water drain, and generator access panels must be accessible for service after installation. 7. Do not energize the battery charger or coolant heaters until the batteries have electrolyte and the cooling system is filled with coolant. 8. Never Run AC And DC Wires In Same Conduit As This May Result In Improper Operation Of Equipment. INSTALLATION NOTATIONS COOLING SYSTEM NOTES 1. Ventilation air should be drawn from an area that is not affected by heating from other sources such as transformers, radiators, or mufflers. If such a condition exists, the engine could overheat or have poor performance. In addition, the intake air louvers should not be obstructed by walls or other equipment and should be configured to spring open and motor closed. 2. Locate exhaust discharge away from air intakes to prevent reentry of fumes and odors. 3. When the unit is installed in an enclosed room, adequate ventilation as described in the radiator sizing section is required so the that the engine has sufficient air for combustion and removal of radiated heat. If separate piping is being used for combustion air, please contact Carolina Engine for the appropriate sizing. 4. The total pressure drop on the radiator fan should not exceed 0.25 inches of water internal. 5. Radiator ducting should be larger than the radiator core, with inlet air ducts 1.5 times greater than the outlet ducts. 6. Locate air intakes to provide maximum cooling air to the generator set, yet avoid hot, stagnant air in other areas. Reference the Typical Installation Package Drawing that follows these pages for other arrangement/mstallation considerations. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM NOTES 1. All power cables, control wiring, terminals, lugs, conduit, and other associated items are to be provided by the installing electrical contractor. 2. Lugs for customer power cable connections to genset and switchgear are not provided unless specifically called out in the drawings. Lugs are supplied for the generator mounted circuit breaker only. 3. All support systems such as battery chargers, jacket water heaters, etc. must be operational both during normal power and under emergency power. It is recommended that a separate distribution breaker panel be located in the engine room to supply all support systems for ease of maintenance and safety. 4. All AC wiring must be run in seperate conduit from the DC control wiring. EXHAUST SYSTEM NOTES 1. The exhaust flex, silencer, and mating flanges for the silencer will be shipped loose for connection and installation at site by the contractor. The sets of nuts, bolts, and gaskets for each connection between the flex and muffler and weld flanges will also be supplied. 2. Extend exhaust stacks to avoid nuisance fumes and odors. 3. Locate exhaust discharge away from ventilating air intakes to prevent entry of fumes and or exhaust recirculation problems. 4. The maximum allowable exhaust gas back pressure is 27 inches of water. The calculated total back pressure from the piping and muffler is 14 inches of water. 5. The weight of the exhaust pipe must be isolated from the engine. No more than 60 pounds should be engine supported. 6. Install exhaust lines with a minimum of 12 inch clearance from any combustible materials. FOUNDATION SUPPORT SYSTEM NOTES 1. For vibration isolator installation, follow the manufacturer's guidelines listed on the specification sheet supplied with this submittal. Raising the spring isolators to their minimum operating height and leveling must be performed before any external connections are made to the generator set. It is recommended that the contractor raise and level the isolators upon delivery of the generator set. 2. After all auxiliary equipment is mounted to the generator set in the field, it is recommended that the operating height be rechecked. 3. The foundations for the generator sets should be thick enough to prevent deflection and torque reaction while retaining sufficient surface area for support. 4. It is recommended that the size of the concrete pad be 1 foot larger on all sides than the generator set package. FUEL SYSTEM NOTES 1. The main fuel tank is supplied and installed by others(except as noted in the Equipment List). 2. All fuel piping and fittings are supplied and installed by others. Carolina Engine is supplying the flexible hoses for engine fuel connections only. 3. All fuel required for initial fills and during testing is to be supplied by the contractor or owner. 4. Use only black iron pipe for fuel lines. Black iron is recommended since is is more durable and less likely to be damaged. 5. Do not use any galvanized fittings or piping anywhere in the system as the coating reacts with diesel fuel and can flake off. Even with the fuel filters in place, it could still be possible for pieces of the coating to enter the engine and cause problems. 6. Install a solenoid valve on the engine inlet for situations where a siphoning effect will draw fuel into the engine. The solenoid valve must be activated by the engine start signal. STARTING SYSTEM NOTES 1. Use stranded wire for connection between the battery charger DC output terminals and the starters.to minimize the effect of vibrations. 2. Lead acid batteries are shipped dry. The Carolina Engine technician will supply electrolyte and fill the batteries during the startup. 3. Mounting the battery charger on the generator set or other vibrating equipment is not recommended. If it is necessary to mount the charger this way, shock mount should be supplied. 4. Mount the battery charger in a vertical position in a dry location. 5. Install the battery charger in such a way that allows for adequate ventilation at the top and bottom of the charger to remove radiated heat. 6. Ground the charger as required per applicable codes. 7. Size AC and DC wiring according to the amperage, length of cable run and as listed in the guidelines given in the battery charger installation manual provided following these notes. 8. Do not energize the battery charger until startup after the batteries have been filled with electrolyte. SYSTEM STARTUP REQUIREMENTS The following notes are designed to insure that your generator set start ups are completed smoothly and correctly. Most of the items mentioned have caused delays and unnecessary expense to customers when Improperly completed, therefore, you will avoid many of the pitfalls by carefully following these notes: 1. When calling for startup, contact Matt Barbeau at Carolina Engine (800) - 277 -6010 extension 2490. 2. Call for startup at least two weeks prior to the requested date to allow for scheduling. 3. Return signed Startup Check List. 4. Ensure that all interconnect wiring (AC and DC control) are run in separate conduits and terminated prior to startup. All wiring Is the responsibility of the installer. Due to code restrictions and liability concerns, Carolina Engine technicians are not allowed to make power connections. 5. Commercial AC power must be available and connected to the transfer switch line side terminals and engine generator accessories prior to startup (if applicable). 6. Generator AC output leads must be run in separated conduit from DC control wiring to prevent possible malfunction and damage to the generator set and switchgear controls. All control wiring should be strand type. 7. Fuel lines must be run unless unit has a gen set mounted fuel tank base and fuel available to the generator set prior to startup. 8. Water must be available on site. 9. Use caution when sizing fuel lines, especially gaseous fuel lines. A set may function properly during test, but fail under a later larger load if fuel lines are undersized. Galvanized pipe or fittings cannot be used in the engine fuel lines. 10. GAS SYSTEMS: Please be advised when installing a natural gas or LP generator that a solenoid shut -off valve & secondary regulator is within the packaged generator set. The secondary regulator accepts 11" to 13" Water Column. IF THE GAS SUPPLY IS ABOVE THIS PRESSURE LEVEL THE GENERATOR WILL NOT FUNCTION. CAROLINA ENGINE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT. INCLUDING REGULTORS, REQUIRED TO REDUCE THE SITE GAS PRESSURE TO THE CORRECT LEVEL. 11. Exhaust piping must be complete prior to startup. 12. Information to correctly install wiring, fuel lines, exhaust pipes, ventilation, etc. is available upon request. If after carefully reading this information you cannot determine correct installation of one of these Items, contact Carolina Engine Generator Sales Department at the above listed telephone number. 13. The Carolina Engine Technician will supply and install battery acid, oil and system coolant. He will test the system for proper operation and inform your personnel of any discrepancies. Startups include one trip to the site. 'Should the technician be required to return Slue to improper or incomplete installation, such return visits will be customer responsibility. Proper preparation will prevent this unnecessary expense. If you have any questions concerning the above information, please feel free to call Carolina Engine for additional details. • • • Wiring Requirement Communication wire should be #16 stranded. Extension requests must be to writing and provide satisfactory reasons why circumstances beyond the applicants control have prevented action from being taken. In the event you do not call for the above inspection and receive an extension prior to 04/09/2008 , your permit will become null and void and any further work on the project will require a new permit and associated fees. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Per the International Building Code and/or the International Mechanical Code, every permit application not issued within 180 days from the date of application shall expire by limitation and become null and void. Your permit application expires on 11/03/2007 . If you choose to pursue your project, a written request for extension of your application addressed to the Building Official, demonstrating justifiable cause, will need to be received at the Permit Center prior to your expiration date of 11/03/2007. If it is determined that an extension is granted, your application will be extended for an additional 90 days from the expiration date. Div 9nm_A -7AA August 29, 2007 Brandon Miles Planning Department City of Tukwila 6300 Southcenter Blvd Suite 100 Tukwila, WA 98188 Dear Mr. Miles, %use Our re- submittal drawings, appended to this letter have been revised to address your plan review observations dated May 14, 2007. Listed below are plan review responses to your comments. 1. The proposal calls for a ten foot fence to enclose the generator. Any fence greater than six feet in height must meet setbacks. The side setback within the TUC is 15 feet. The site plan indicates that the fence will not meet setbacks. Revise the site plan so that setbacks can be met. RESPONSE: The generator location will move to the north into an existing parking area. This area will meet the minimum 15 foot setback from property lines. Per the original site plan we are over parked by 7 stalls at this location. Therefore, eliminating 3-4 stalls will not be an issue. 2. The City approved the design of this site in 1995. The proposed work alters the design that was approved by the City. It appears that trees and landscaping will be removed as part of this project. The trees on the west elevation are mature and alternative layouts (including an alternative location) need to be explored in order to retain the trees. RESPONSE: The revised location will not affect any trees or landscaping. 3. The proposed screening is also unacceptable from a design standard. The screening should include a combination of vegetation and fencing. RESPONSE: See Site Schematic Plan and Landscape and Irrigation Plan. 4. Alternatives need to be considered with regards to the bollards which are proposed to be placed around the generator enclosure. The bollards are unacceptable from a design review perspective. Once possible alternative would be to use planters to provide the same function as the bollards. RESPONSE: Bollards will be replaced with landscaped curb and gutter islands to protect the fenced enclosure. However, the testing of the generator is not exempt. The noise emitted from the generator cannot be greater than 60 dB(A) at any receiving property. Provide documentation that the generator will meet the City's noise standards at the nearest receiving property. RESPONSE: See attached specification for sound levels provided by CAT. The nearest receiving property is across the street and is well over the 50 foot mark. The proposed generator is equipped with CAS super sound attenuated enclosure. The dba's at 50' are 63.6 with no Toad and 65.1 at full load. There is also an existing landscaping barrier to the rear of the proposed location which will also aid in reducing noise levels. 6. If a landscaping plan is submitted, it must be prepared and stamped by a licensed landscape architect. RESPONSE: Sealed Landscape and Irrigation Plans are included in this resubmittal.
