Typical floor framing consists of 3/4" plywood over 2x10's at 16" on center supported by 4x10 beams and 4x4 posts.. A W8x10 steel beam , • supported. by TS 4x4 posts would support the back edge of,the mezzanine. Lateral support would be provided by attaching the mezzanine to the . existing walls at the back and sides of the mezzanine. 'We have.reviewed the structural capacity of the mezzanine using the 1994 Uniform Building • Code (UBC). We•have determined an'allowable live load of 58 pounds' per square foot (psf) for the•mezzanine based on a maximum.span of 13' -0" for the 2x10 joists and checked the • remaining elements for this live load. Typical storage'areas would be designed for a minimum: live load of 125 psf (light storage).in accordance with item 18 in table 16 -A of the UBC. The stair has been checked using a live load of 100 psf. From a practical standpoint the live load of the proposed mezzanine is similar to an'office'floor (50 psf live'load). The.actual displays should be weighed 'and.then the liveload 'imposed on the. mezzanine should be calculated based on the.. weights of the display units divided by the floor area occupied by the display.
