Wolf Construction Inc. and reviewed two existing precast panels for new 12' x 10'door opening to be cut in. The precast panels are 5 -1/2" thick and the top of panel height is at approximately 15' -6 ". One of the openings will be cut into an interior precast concrete wall which separates a storage area from the front part of the building that was used as a restaurant. It appears that the interior wall may have been an exterior wall at one time, with the front section of building being added on at a later time. However, I have no architectural or structural plans of the original structure in which to verify this. The Architect for the project, David Kehle, asked me to contact you regarding the new opening in the concrete panel between the two attached structures. There will be a 12 foot opening in one of three panels making up the wall separating the two building spaces. The net loss of shearwall is minimal given the overall length of remaining wall. Keefe, Fire Chief The attached set of building plans have been reviewed by The Fire Prevention Bureau and are acceptable with the following concerns: 1. The total number of fire extinguishers required for your establishment is calculated at one extinguisher for each 3000 sq. ft. of area. The extinguisher(s) should be of the "All Purpose" (2A, 10B:C) dry chemical type. Travel distance to any fire extinguisher must be '75' or less. (NFPA 10, 3 -1.1) Extinguishers shall be installed on the hangers or. in the brackets supplied, mounted in cabinets, or set on shelves (NFPA 10, 1 -6.9), and shall be installed so that the top of the extinguisher is not more than 5 feet above the floor. (NFPA 10, 1 -6.9) Extinguishers shall be located so as to be in plain view (if at all possible), or if not in plain view, they shall be identified with a sign stating, "Fire Extinguisher ", with an arrow pointing to the unit. (NFPA 10, 1-6.3) (UFC Standard 10 -1) Clear access to fire extinguishers is required at all times. They may not be hidden or obstructed. (NFPA 10A -4 -4) Maintain fire extinguisher coverage throughout. 2. No point in an unsprinklered building may be more than 150 feet from an exit, measured along the path of travel. (UBC 1003.4) No point in a sprinklered building•may be more than 200 feet from an exit, measured along the path of travel.
