ThTFORMATION MEMO To: From: Date: Subject: Mayor Haggerton Public W orks Directo~ September 10, 2008 Bid Award - Trailer Mounted 100 KW Generator ISSUE Award the trailer mount 100 Kw diesel generator to Cummins Northwest, LLC. BACKGROUND This 100 Kilowatt portable generator replaces a unit that has been in service since 1984. It includes connections that can be used for any of the city's emergency management needs but will primarily be used to supply power to Tukwila Sewer or Surface Water lift stations in the event of power failure. The call for bids was advertised on June 5, 2008 in the Seattle Times and Daily Journal of Commerce. Two bids were received and opened on June 26, 2008. Bid results, not including sales tax are as follows: N C Power Systems Cummins Northwest $60,765.50 . $66,789.00 The Fleet 501 budget (line #18) for the unit is $63,000 and 501 reserves will cover the balance. The NC Power Systems' bid was not responsive because it did not contain the required Crouse Hind plugs, necessary cords and the Crouse Hinds Plug assembly. NC Power Systems was given the chance to resubmit but failed to provide what was required to meet the original bid amount. These connections are crucial to the operations of the portable generator. Additionally, the NC Power Systems' bid did not take into account the custom trailer specifications and box units for the cables separating the 240V and 480V connections. RECOMMENDATION Award the bid for the trailer mount 100 Kw generator to Cummins Northwest, LLC in the amount of $66,789.00 P:\PROJECTS\A- BG Projects\Trailer Mounted Generator\Trailer Mounted 100 KW Generator - Bid Award.doc 1
