The applicable comments are herein numbered and may also be keyed to the plans. 1. Provide at least one handrail at stairs. Top of handrail shall be placed not less than 34 inches or more than 38 inches above the nosing of treads and landings. The handgrip portion of handrails shall not be less than 1 -1/4 inches nor more than 2 inches in cross- sectional dimension or the shape shall provide an equivalent gripping surface. Handrails projecting from a wall shall have a space of not less than 1 -1/2 inches between the wall and the handrail. U.B.C. 1006.9 2. Foundations for columns and posts shall extend 12" below grade to the frost line per U.B.C. Section 1806. 3. Deck frame and post to beam connections shall be braced to ensure against lateral movement as required by U.B.C. Chapter 23. 4. Deck joist, hangers, and framing supported by the existing house shall comply with U.B.C. Chapter 23. 5. All deck framing lumber expose to weather must be approved wood natural resistance to decay or treated wood U.B.C.
