As such, the code data on the cover sheet must represent the Occupancy Group classification established by
code requirements. Note the Occupancy Group as Group E, Division 1. UBC 305.1
2. Provide two exits to serve the computer lab. room. UBC Table 10 -A, & Section 1017.7.
3. An approved fire alarm system is required for the new occupancy. Indicate whether or not a fire alarm
system exists in this building or, if not, provide a note on the plans stating that said required fire alarm
system is to be installed. Fire alarm shall produce a sound as prescribed in the Fire Code, include visible
alarm signal as required by UBC 1106.15.2 and shall be accessible as required by UBC Section 1106.15.3.
4. Based upon the calculated occupant load for the computer lab. room, panic hardware will be required on
each exit door which serves this room. Schedule this requirement on drawings.
5. Natural or mechanical ventilation is required per UBC Chapter 12. Provide a narrative to describe how
this is being accomplished in the existing use or , if the existing use does not provide for (code prescribed)
ventilation, indicate the proposed method of accomplishing this for the new uses. Note: Requirements for
ventilation are Uniform Building Code provisions and cannot be deferred outright to a bidder /design
contractor. At minimum, the code prescribed ventilation requirements must be specified on the
construction documents for this permit application.
6. Construction documents call for an bid alternate that calls for the removal of the existing suspended
ceiling and the replacement with new. Provide a note to plans or otherwise detail a proposed method for
installing lateral bracing for a new suspended ceiling system.

SUBJECT: Improvements to former Foster Library Building
Proposed improvements to the former Foster Library building, which is sited on the campus of
Foster High School, have been described to me as follows:
• The building will be re- roofed.
• Interior improvements will result in the creation of a classroom and a separate bus drivers'
lounge, each served by a restroom meeting A.D.A. accessibility requirements.
• Drivers using the lounge will park in the existing bus parking/loading area of the high school.
I have reviewed the City's files pertaining to approved land uses for the Foster High School
campus, and find that the proposed use of the former Foster Library is consistent with prior land
use approvals (of both the City and King County) for the site. A new or revised Conditional Use
Permit (CUP) is not required for the uses described herein.
Of course, any construction activity associated with this proposed use will be subject to
compliance with all applicable City ordinances and standards. I have spoken with Judy Peterson
of Heery International, whom I understand to be the consultant project manager for this proposal.
Ms. Peterson has indicated she will be in contact with the Tukwila Permit Center soon to ensure
the appropriate permits and plan approvals are obtained.

of the Work.
1.9 CUTTING AND PATCHING
1.9.1 Cutting and patching Is hereby defined to Include, but is not necessarily limited to. the
cutting and patching of nominally completed and previously existing work in order to
accommodate the coordination of Work, or the installation of other work, or to uncover
other work for access of Inspection. or to obtain samples for testing, or for similar
purposes and is defined to exclude integralcuttng and patching during the manufacturing,
fabricating. erecting, ana installing process for individuolunits of work. Drilling the work to
install fasteners and similar operations are excluded from the definition of cutting and
patching,
1.9.2 The Contractor represents that he has carefully reviewed all demolition, removal,
modification. cutting, patching. and blocking requirements of all subtrades and that
has Included In his bid the cost for all such requirements for the Work indicated In
the Construction Documents, and as further stated below,

1.10 PERMITS
I.IOJ The Architect shallsecure City review and a building permit for the proposed work.
The Contractor .shall be responsible for securing allother required permits and licenses
associated with the work. Mechanical and Electricalsystems work Is to be bidder designs.
1.11.1 All Work as shown on the Construction Documents are per the 1994 Uniform Building
Code and all other codes and ordinances as adopted by Pierce County.
It Is the Intent of these documents to comply thereto,
1.11.2 All Work shall conform to provisions of applicable local codes. Work performed In
00101lan of localcodes or ordinances shall be corrected at no expense to the Owner.
1.11.3 Contractor shall provide and post temporary exit signs where required. Comply with
code requirements on exit signing installation.
IJ1.4 In case of any conflict wherein the methods or standards of instollotlon or the

ordinances, the laws or ordinances shall govern. Notify the Architect Immediately to
