HomeMy WebLinkAbout1911-07-11 Regular MinutesTukwila Wash July 11, 1911 Regular Meeting of the Town council was held at Lutz Hall on the above date. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor at 8:15 PM. The Councilmember present were: E.W. Engel Mayor Jacob Gunthert M.H. Miller F.E. Kline and Eugene Sandahl The minutes from previous meeting were read by the Clerk. Mr. Miller stated that the $110.00 appropriated for the McIntyre District was to be used as follows: $100.00 on Outlet Street and Division and $10.00 on Bluff Street, otherwise the minutes was found correct. Report of Committees: The Ordinance Committee requested an ordinance for railroad speed regualtion. The ordnance had been framed and was presented to the Council. The cutting down of speed to 8 MPH met with opposition from some of the Council. A vote was finally taken and stood this: Gunthert and Kline for 8 MPH. Sandahl and Miller for 12 MPH. The Mayor cast his vote for 12 MPH, and the ordinance will therfore read 12 MPH. The next in consideration was the speed rate and forming of fine for violation of same. Mr. Miller made a motion for 12 MPH and $100.00 fine or 30 days in jail or both for violations of ordinance. The motion was carried. The third rail clause inserted in the ordinance was discussed at some length. Mr. Miller finally made a motion to table the question for the present. The motion carried. The ordinance was considered an emergency case and adopted at once. Bills and Correspondence The following Bills were read: A.B. McIntyre $125.00 A.W. Kingsly $24.68 Caroline Lutz $2.00 C.P. Jensen $5.00 Total $56.68 The Bills were examined and approved by Finance Committee warrants were ordered drawn in their payment. A letter from Accident Commission of Olympia was referred to Street Committee. Mr. McIntyre petitioned the Council for an appropriation of $112.75 for work laid out in his vicinity. The petition was not asked upon. A petition from citizens protesting against the construction of a thistle on Tukwila Avenue and instead favoring the completion of a north and south outlet came before the Council. A lively discussion followed. A motion was finally introduced to employ a surveyor to take a survey of Tukwila Avenue and Riverside Avenue. The motion was carried. The Street Committee hearing auhtorized to hire an inquirer. Mr. Kline requested that he had seen the Officials of the Puget Sound Electric Company about draining their ditch. They had agreed to put in proper drainage so no stagnant water should stand there during summer months. Unfinished Business The filling in of the open ditch on Reitz Avenue was brought up. Mr. Sandahl made motion to employ team to fill in ditch. The motion carried. The Street Committee will see that the work is done. A letter from Puget Sound Electric Company was read. The company stated that several protests against opening up of crossing on First Avenue had been received and would therefore at the present time had changed crossing. They further stated that they were installing an electric signal going as present crossing, which would greatly eliminate danger at that place. The Treasurer's quarterly report was read and found OK.
