HomeMy WebLinkAbout1911-04-11 Regular MinutesTukwila April 11, 1911 The Regular Meeting of the Town Council was held at Lutz Hall on the above date. Meeting was called to roder by Mayor Engel at 8:00 PM. The Councilmembers of the Council present were: E.W. Engel Mayor F.E. Kline Eugene Sandahl John O. Wold and M.H. Miller The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was first in order. The minutes was found correct and accepted by the Council. Reports of Committees: Mr. Sandahl reported about the south end of Bluff Avenue. He stated that a of 20 feet had been deeded to the County for road purpose adjoining the County Road. Mr. Engel also stated that he had seen Mr. Rogers and was told to go ahead and improve the road and by so doing it public property. Mr. Wold requested that he had seen of the Land in that addition and that they all were willing to give right-of-way to a road connecting Bluff Street with Clarence Avenue. One party living at Lake had the matter under consideration and had told Mr. Wold that his attorney would come out and look the matter Write this matter was discussion Mr. Sandahl stated that they were all willing to give right-of-way for a road providing the Town would them from improvement taxes over this road. the Council objectd to and many instances was shown where property owners had to right-of-away for streets and alleys adjoining their land and had to pay improvement taxes just the same. The matter called for some discussion, but was finally decided to get a better underrstanding in the case and in meantime improve other streets that was badly in need of it. Mr. Kline reported on Main Street and Clarence Avenue. The Committee had gone over the ground and studied the conditions and had come to the conclusion to postpone the job on Clarence Avenue and at present just do some work on Main Street. It was decided to do it by day work and not by contract as had been previous suggested. Special Committees Mr. Engel stated that the and Mr. Sandahl had been present at the Council Meeting in Seattle, where the matter of for the Interurban matter had been postponed for two weeks and was up again April 12th and it was hoped that some of our Councilmembers on from here could then be present. Mr. Sandahl said he would be there. Bills and Correspondence The following Bills were read: J.H. for work on Outlet Street 2.00 Mrs. Lutz for Hall rent 2.00 H.W. Kinglsey salary for 1st Quarter 4.74 Clerks salary for March 5.00 The bills was audted by the Auditing Committee and warrants ordered drawn for payment of same. The Treasurers quarterly report was read and found OK. A letter from the local Socialist Party endorsing for Councilmember to Bill Seat left vaant by Mr. Northrup was read. However, no action was taken over the recommendation. The Council being opposed to party politics in our Council. The Clerk received $2.00 for dog tags from the Marshall. The money was turned over to the Treasurer. New Business Mr. Miller wanted work on streets The improvements under consideration was Bluff Street. Outlet Avenue and Main Street. Mr. Miller brought in a motion to request $200.00 in the Interurban Addition. A general discussion followed however it was agreed on that such an amount was too much. Mr. Sandahl changed the motion to read $185.00 on Bluff and $15.00 on the Reidlinger Road leading to Bluff Street. The vote on the motion was divided, the roll was called and stood this: Sandahl and Wold Yes Kline and Miller No The Mayor stood by the Yes and the motion was then carried work to begin at once. The next motion was on appropriation of $100.00 for improving south end of Main Street. This was carried unanimously. Mr. Wold asked for $50.00 to improve Outlet Avenue. This was sent to motion and was duly carried. The total amount appropriated for street improvement being $300.00. An ordinance for renaming Hillman Boulevard passed as first reading. The new name to be given is Tukwila Avenue. Ordinance 26 The Council approved to declare the of Northrup. The motion carried The Clerk was instructed to write the Puget Sound Electric Company to open up railroad crossing at and Clarence Avenue. This finished the at Adjournment was taken at 8:55 PM. C.P.
