• MODEL TYPES AVAILABLE AND APPLICATION:
THE SPANCO FREE STANDING JIB CRANES ARE AVAILABLE IN THREE
BASIC STYLES TO SUIT SPECIFIC APPLICATIONS, THESE STYLES
ARE: BASE PLATE MOUNTED, FOUNDATION MOUNTED, AND SLEEVE INSERT
MOUNTED,
ALL OF THE ABOVE MODELS HAVE A 350 ROTATION CAPABILITY WHICH
CAN MAXIMIZE THE UTILIZATION OF ANY WORK AREA. THE FREE STANDING
JIB CRANE DOES NOT NEED ANY ADDITIONAL SUPPORT OTHER THAN THE
SPECIFIED REINFORCED FOUNDATIONS. THE FREE STANDING JIB CRANE
ALSO PROVIDES FOR FULL ROTATION WITH ELECTRIFICATION FOR MOTOR
DRIVES AND POWERED HOISTS THROUGH VARIOUS COLLECTOR RING ASSEMBLIES.
CAPACITIES, SPANS, UNDER BOOM HEIGHTS:
SPANCO FREE STANDING JIB CRANES ARE AVAILABLE IN 1 /4, 1/2, 1,
1-1/2, 2, 3, 4, AND 5 TON CAPACITIES. STANDARD MODELS INCLUDE
SPANS AND UNDERBOOM HEIGHT FROM 8' TO 20', IF LONGER SPANS AND
HEIGHTS ARE NECESSARY, PLEASE CONTACT THE FACTORY FOR ADDITIONAL
INFORMATION,
THE FORCES DRAWN IN THE ABOVE ILLUSTRATION SHOW THE RELATIVE
POSITION AND DIRECTION OF THE FORCES NEEDED TO OPPOSE THE FORCES
CREATED BY THE LOAD. WHEN THE LOAD IS APPLIED, THE CRANE AND ITS
COMPONENTS EXPERIENCE COMPRESSION ON ONE SIDE AND TENSION ON THE OTHER.
THIS IS DUE TO THE MOMENT CREATED BY THE LOAD EXTENDED OUT ON THE
BOOM. THE ENTIRE SIDE OF THE STRUCTURE, CLOSER TOWARD THE LOAD,
EXPERIENCES COMPRESSION, WHILE THE FAR SIDE OF THE STRUCTURE EXPERIENCES
TENSION. A SIMILAR DEVELOPED CONDITION OCCURS IN BOTH THE FOUNDATION
AND SLEEVE MOUNTED MODELS.

THE BASE PLATE MOUNTED SERIES UTILIZES A HEXAGONAL BASE PLATE
WHICH IS REINFORCED WITH SIX KNEEBRACES WHICH ARE EQUALLY SPACED
ON THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE MAST. THE BASE PLATE ASSEMBLY IS
SECURED BY MEANS OF ANCHOR BOLTS TO A PRESCRIBED REINFORCED
CONCRETE FOUNDATION, WITH THE NUMBER OF ANCHOR BOLTS VARYING
WITH THE CAPACITY OF THE CRANE, SIX BOLTS ARE USED FOR COLUMNS
LESS THAN 16" IN DIAMETER AND 12 BOLTS FOR COLUMNS 16" IN DIAMETER
AND GREATER.
BASE PLATE MOUNTED MODEL 100
JIB CRANE FOUNDATIONS
SPAIVCO FREE STANDING JIB CRANES ARE ALL DESIGNED TO BE MOUNTED
TO A PERMANENT CONCRETE FOUNDATION WHICH, IN ADDITION TO ANCHORING
THE CRANE, ACTS BASICALLY AS A COUNTERWEIGHT FOR THE FORCES EXERTED.
BY THE CRANE. THE FOUNDATION SIZES RECOMMENDED FOR ALL THE VARIOUS
MODELS ARE BASED UPON SOIL PRESSURE OF 2500 # /SQ. FT., WHICH IS AN
EXTREMELY POOR SOIL CONDITION THAT MOST CUSTOMERS WILL NOT EXPERIENCE,
BUT IT IS FOR THIS REASON THAT OUR RECOMMENDED FOUNDATIONS ARE
SOMEWHAT CONSERVATIVE IN ORDER TO PROVIDE MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE SAFETY
MARGINS. THE FOUNDATION SIZE LISTED FOR EACH CRANE IS_STRICTLY A
RECOMMENDATION AS THE CUSTOMER HAS THE ULTIMATE RESPONSIBLITY FOR
INSURING PROPER INSTALLATION OF THE CRANE.
THE RECOMMENDED FOUNDATIONS ARE ADEQUATE FOR ALL BUT THE VERY
WORST SOIL CONDITIONS, SO IT IS POSSIBLE IN SOME CASES TO REDUCE THE
FOUNDATION SIZE IF IT IS DETERMINED TO BE FEASIBLE BY A QUALIFIED
ARCHITECT OR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER. THE DRAWING ON THE NEXT PAGE
(FIGURE 2) SHOWS HOW THE DEVELOPED FORCES ON THE JIB CRANE AFFECT
THE FOUNDATION. f`
NOTE: IT IS SOLELY THE CUSTOMER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVIDE.
THE PROPER FOUNDATION FOR THE CRANE SO THERE SHOULD
BE NO DEVIATION FROM THE RECOMMENDED FOUNDATION
SIZE WITHOUT FIRST CONSULTING A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL.

TRUNNION ROLLER ASSEMBLY:
THE SPANCO TRUNNION ROLLER ASSEMBLY MOUNTED AT THE LOWER PORTION
OF THE HEAD ASSEMBLY PROVIDES A CONTACT ROLLING SURFACE AGAINST
THE SIDE OF THE COLUMN. THIS IS POSSIBLE DUE TO THE TRANSFER OF
LOAD THROUGH THE HEAD ASSEMBLY,
THE ROLLER ASSEMBLY IS CONSTRUCTED OF A FORMED CHANNEL, ROLLERS
CONTAINING TWO TIMKEN TAPERED ROLLER BEARINGS EACH, A GREASE FITTING
FOR EASY LUBRICATION, A HEX BOLT AND SELF LOCKING NUT, AND FINALLY,
TWO THREADED ADJUSTMENT RODS. THE TRUNNION ROLLER ASSEMBLY IS
DESIGNED FOR EASY ADJUSTMENT OF THE HEAD IN LEVELING THE JIB BOOM.
THE BEARINGS ARE DESIGNED FOR A B -10 LIFE OF 5,000 HOURS, C.M.A.A.
SPECIFICATION.
THE MAIN DESIGN ADVANTAGES ARE:
1. EASILY ADJUSTABLE WITH A DOUBLE NUT ARRANGEMENT ON
BOTTOM HEAD ASSEMBLY CHANNEL. THIS ENABLES THE BOOM
TO BE LEVELED SIMPLY DURING INSTALLATION.
2. GREASE FITTINGS FOR EASY LUBRICATION OF THE TIMKEN
TAPERED ROLLER BEARING TO ASSURE PROPER OPERATION.
Two TYPES OF ROLLER ASSEMBLIES ARE STANDARD. ONE WHICH UTILIZES
TWO ROLLERS IS USED IN THE LOWER CAPACITY CRANES, ANOTHER, WHICH
UTILIZES FOUR ROLLERS, IS USED ON THE HEAVIER MODELS TO ASSURE
PROPER ROTATION OF THE CRANE, AS WELL AS CARRYING THE TRANSFER
LOAD.
