Due to existing conditions differing from the designed layout, we Installed the crane rail extensions as they were In previous years. Existing allthread was used were the 3/4" bolts were called out for. The allthread passes from bottom thru the 6/8" plate, 1/2" spacer & up through the existing connecting plata. Doubled Grade 5 nuts were used on top of the existing connecting plate and a single below the connecting plats. Doubled Grade 5 nuts were used below the 5/8" plate and a single on top of the 5/8" x 12" sq. plate. Please advise if acceptable. •The substitution is acceptable. The subject drawing (1404 -S4) provided details for extending an existing 2 -ton bridge crane. A subsequent modification* upgraded the entire system to accommodate two 3 -ton bridge cranes. The connections in question will be subjected to a maximum Toad in the dual 3 -ton configuration of 14.6 kips. Assuming the threaded rod material used 1:o make the connection was A307 with an ultimate tensile strength of 60 ksl, then each rod can support 0.442 x 20 = 8.8 kips, for a total capacity of 35.2 kips. VOO /COoIl ,LSIOA ENVIID VIA Sincerely, Washington Crane & Hoist Co. • X Telephone ❑ In Person Reference: 98 -1404 Manufacturing Engineering Support Date: 08 -26 -98 3 Ton Bridge Crane (upgrade from 2T) HGI RML Time: 1500 Party: Person Contacted: MIKE CURRIE Company Name: Washington Crane & Hoist Bridge crane loads to existing building are as follows: Electric hoist & motor Hoist trolley (6" wheel base) Bridge beam and end trucks (54" wheel base) Runway beams 52' of S 15x50 According to Mike, their quote was for bolted connections to the bottom flanges of the existing roof girders. I pointed out that the other building cranes are suspended from the top flange of the roof girders by threaded rods and straps, and that this existing method was probably used to avoid reducing the strength of the roof girders by drilling holes in the bottom, or tension flange. At this point, Mike started talking about an extra to do it with threaded rods and straps. I said he needed to talk to John Erickson. Apart from the phone conversation, I think he misunderstood my comments. As I recall, the existing runway beams, which he will remove, are attached to hangers suspended from the roof girders. I believe he originally intended to connect his new runway beams to these hangers, not the bottom flange of the roof girders. ... , .. _ • . • _ s to sup.. • ... • • • - • • • . 14GI Lulu.
