In cases in which a use is not mentioned specifically, the Unit Power Allonance shall be determined by the building official. This determination shall be based upon the most comparable use specified in the table. See Section 1512 for exempt areas. 2. The watts per square foot may be increased, by two percent per foot of ceiling height above twenty feet, unless specifically directed otherwise by subsequent footnotes. 3. Watts per square foot of room may be increased by two percent per foot of ceiling height above twelve feet. 4. For all other spaces, such as seating and common areas, use the Unit Light Power Allowance for assembly. 5. Watts per square foot of room may be increased by two percent per foot of ceiling height above nine feet. 6. Includes pump area under canopy. 7. In cases in which a lighting plan is submitted for only a portion ofa floor, a Unit Lighting Power Allowance of 1.35 may be used for usable office floor area and 0.80 watts per square foot shall be used for the common areas, which may include elevator space, lobby area and rest rooms. Common areas, as herein defined do not include mall concourses. 8. For the fire engine room, the Unit Lighting Power Allowance is 1.0 watts per square foot. 9. For indoor sport tournament courts with adjacent spectator seating, the Unit Lighting Power Allowance for the court area is 2.6 watts per square foot. 10. For both Retail A and Retail B, light for free- standing display, building showcase illumination and display window illumination installed within two feet of the window are exempt. Retail A allows a Unit Lighting Power Allowance of 1.0 watts per square foot. Ceiling mounted adjustable tungsten halogen and HID merchandise display illuminarit are exempt. Retail B allows a Unit Lighting Power Allowance of 1.5 watts per square foot, including all ceiling mounted merchandise display luminaries. 11. Provided that a floor plan, indicating rack location and height, is submitted, the square footage for a warehouse may be defined, for computing the interior Unit Lighting Power Allowance, as the floor area not covered by racks plus the vertical face area (access side only) of the racks. The height allowance defined in footnote 2 applies only to the floor area not covered by racks. I talked to Bruce at Sepia Interior Supplies, the vendor of the acoustical materials, and he converted the materials weight per shipping unit into the material weight per square foot as installed. This is what I have. Acoustical grid system is an Intermediate Duty, exposed tee system by Armstrong. This system as installed weighs 0.208 LB/SF. This includes main tees, four foot tees, two foot tees, siesmic compression struts, seismic splay wires, hanger wire, and eye lags to hang the suspension wires. This does NOT include the weight of light fixtures, air diffusers, or other equipment installed by others into the grid system. This number does not include the weight of the ceiling /wall trim angle because it's weight is supported by the wall as opposed to being supported by the roof assembly. Acoustical tiles are #531 Cirrus Tegular 2'x2' by Armstrong. This ceiling tile weighs 1.1 LB /SF installed. Total weight of the ceiling grid/tile assembly which hangs from the roof assembly is 1.308 LB/SF. Grid suspension wires are hung at four foot centers and within eight inches of any penetrating wall as per UBC standards for this zone. Each ceiling suspension wire is associated with a maximum of sixteen square feet of installed ceiling: the point load upon any given suspension wire would be a maximum of 16 x 1.308 LB/SF or 20.928 LBS, plus the weight component of any other equipment installed in the ceiling system by other subtrades. If there is any further information that you should require, you can reach me at 425- 299 -3081. I look forward to answering your questions. A detail of this installation was not provided on our drawings nor requested during plan review in anticipation that it would be installed per industry standards by you and /or your subcontractor in the field. Following our discussion today, I agree with you and your framing subcontractor that a deflection track is not required for these short wall installations and it has been installed to meet normal industry standards for this application and there is also a' /." deflection space with the current installation. I also agree with your recommendation to hold the application of the plywood and gypsum wallboard down from the plywood roof decking at least 1 /:" to allow for unanticipated minimal deflection.
