Subtask 2B: Special Recycling Event <br />Proiect Background <br />For several years, the City of Tukwila has provided residents with an annual Tukwila Special <br />Recycling Event. This event provides residents with the opportunity to drop off recyclable <br />materials including bulky yard waste, clean scrap wood, appliances, ferrous metals, non- <br />ferrous metals, textiles, reusable household goods and used materials designated as moderate <br />risk waste, such as motor oil, petroleum based products, antifreeze, Lead acid batteries and <br />tires. The City has previously funded its Special Collection Events with funds from the King <br />County Solid Waste Division's City Optional Program (COP) and the Local Hazardous Waste <br />Management Program (LHWMP). <br />Proiect Description: <br />The City will supplement its funding from the COP and LHWMP to provide residents with the <br />City's 1998 Special Collection Event. The County's WR/R grant funds will be used to pay a <br />consultant, Pacific Energy Institute (PEI), to coordinate the event for the City and provide <br />publicity. <br />Deliverables: <br />coordination of 1998 Special Recycling Event <br />publicity for 1998 Special Recycling Event <br />copy of all event publicity materials <br />Proiect Goals and Objectives: <br />The City wants to give residents the opportunity to recycle and/or reuse materials that are not <br />included in local residential curbside collection programs. <br />Proiect Evaluation <br />The City will provide the County with a copy of the evaluation report that will be prepared for <br />the COP Program for the 1998 Special Collection Event and that will address the following: <br />the number of vehicles attending <br />the volume of each material collected <br />event cost by budget category <br />event comments <br />comparison of 1998 volumes and vehicles with prior year's events <br />summary of survey data collected (if taken) <br />Task 3: Business Program <br />Proiect Description: <br />The City will offer technical assistance, either by telephone, mail or direct person -to- person <br />contact, to help businesses with recycling, waste prevention, and the purchase of recycled <br />products. The City will also provide timely, telephone follow -up to all businesses receiving <br />technical assistance. <br />4 <br />
