<br /> <br />City Of Tukwila <br />Jim Haggerton, Mayor <br />Police Department <br />Michael Villa, Chief of Police <br />An Accredited Agency <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />COPCAB Minutes <br />January 9, 2014 <br />6:30pm-8:00pm <br /> <br />Present: Chief Villa, Chris Partman, Kim Karns, Jerry Thornton, Lynn Churchill, Art Rosengren, Jun Castillo <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />1.Minutes from 12/12/13 meeting approved. <br /> <br /> <br />2.Chief’s Update <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Staffing: <br /> <br />Three lateral and two new officers are in the background process. <br />o <br /> <br />Officer Valdez off FTO, two others getting close to done and progressing well <br />o <br />rd <br /> <br /> <br />In Jan 23 the Command Staff will be going over the draft of the Strategic Plan at the Command Staff <br />retreat. After this step it will go to the Mayor and City council. <br /> <br /> <br />Key points of the Strategic Plan are: <br /> <br />Crime Reduction Initiative <br />o <br /> <br />Facilities <br />o <br /> <br />High Performing Orgs <br />o <br /> <br />Outreach to community <br />o <br />th <br /> <br /> <br />Jan 25 the Chief has been invited to speak at the City Council Retreat <br />rd <br /> <br /> <br />Also at the January 23 Command Staff Retreat the group will work on the 2014 goals and plan. <br /> <br /> <br />The citywide facilities plan is progressing. Elements are: <br /> <br />Phase 1 was the needs assessment. This will be presented to City Council committee on <br />o <br />thth <br />January 13 at 5:30 and also at a work session on January 15. <br /> <br />Phase 2 is assessing the current facilities <br />o <br /> <br />Phase 3 is assessing alternatives <br />o <br /> <br />Phase 4 is funding plan – have this and all of the above done by June is the goal <br />o <br /> <br />Phase 5 is start location search and building designs <br />o <br /> <br />The department is likely to move ahead with a new evidence facility before this plan is <br />o <br />implemented, there is some money in the budget to replace the evidence storage, as this is a <br />critical need. <br /> <br />Break to listen to a vehicle pursuit of someone running from a shoplift call. Chief explained our pursuit policy <br />about how officers are required to broadcast: weather conditions, traffic, speeds, traffic laws violated other <br />relevant information. Art asked how much time/investigation is put into finding the suspect.
