E. (04/ Fox,-, MIC Comments r. n.. r .age 1
19/2011 Rebecca F P
From:

To: <rfox ci.tukwila.wa.us>
Date: 04/13/2011 3:57 PM
Subject: MIC Comments
Email Address: patm@westerncascade.com
Comments: April 13,2011
To The Tukwila City Counsel
The statement below is quoted from the Tukwila Community Develpoment Report dated April 4th, 2011,
Issues and Opportunities Report.
%22Tukwila %92s MIC is approximately 966 acres along the Duwamish River, bounded generally
by the City of Seattle on the north, South 126th Street on the south, the BNSF Burlington
Northern railway right -of -way on the east, and the Tukwila City limits on the west. The
MIC is home to over 14,000 jobs, and provides a significant portion of Tukwila %92s
economic activity. %22
The business I own, Western Cascade is in the boundries as stated above. We have been doing business
in Tukwila for 24 years as of May 7th, of this year.We offer union paid jobs and excellent benifits. Since
2000 my business has resided on 3 acres of property within the boundries as stated in the quoted
statement above, (12065 44th place south.) Unfortunatly the City elected to not include my facility in the
original MIC zoning.
This has been a burden to the business and residential community located within Allentown.
The laws are made stricter as stated in the Commujity Development report, making it very difficult to do
business. The City continues to make the residential communtiy believe that the Allentown area is single
family residential when in fact the use has been manufacturing and industrial since 1956 and will
continue with the railraod, airport and highway. This community will always be surrounded by the 1 -5, the
Burlington Northern Railroad and Boeing Field. All of them make lots of unregulated noise and don't offer
tax dollar contribution to the community.
Companies like Western Cascade have been a good neighbor and have always looked for ways to do
business with the least impact on the community.
It is time for the City to look out for the best interest of the business and residentail communtiy located in
Allentown.
I would recommend that the City be open and honest in letting the Allentown commuity know that the
Burlington Northern Railroad can operate at will as can the airport and freeway system.
Recor ;mendation
Rezone 46th avenue south on the east side of the street, south to 122nd ave south, then east to 44th
place south and all of 44th place south from 46th at the north point to 124th ave to the south as MIC.
Install a buffer zone on the boundries that would isolate truck traffic and limiit the noise from the railroad.
This would be of great service to the residential and business community in Allentown. The zoning change
will give the residences that are within these boundries a greater value for their property.
I am very willing to meet with the Planning Commission and Department of Community developemt to
discuss my idea.
I am traveling this wekk and can not attend the meeting on the 14th April.
You can contact me by email, patm @westerncascade.com or at my office 206 767 -2151.
Respectfully submitted,
Pat Malara, President
