2016 Draft Landscaping Code <br />4. In general, deciduous trees with open branching structures are recommended to ensure <br />visibility to retail establishments. More substantial shade trees or evergreens are <br />recommended in front of private residences. <br />18.52.50 Significant Tree Retention <br />A. All significant trees located within any required landscape area that are not dead, dying, <br />diseased, or a nuisance species, as identified in the Tukwila Approved Tree List, and that <br />do not pose a safety hazard, or conflict with overhead utility Ilinesl as determined by the <br />City or an ISA certified arborist, shall be retained and protected during construction with <br />temporary fencing or other enclosure, as appropriate to the site and following Best <br />Management Practices for tree protection (See TMC Chapter 18.541,.) <br />B. <br />Retained significant trees may be counted towards required landscapingl. For each two <br />percent of effective canopy cover provided by preserved trees incorporated into a <br />development plan, a two percent reduction in the minimum landscape requirement may <br />be granted. Plants shall meet the American Standard for Nursery Plant Stock (American Nursery and <br />Landscape Associations -ANLA) (ANSI Z60.1) as it now reads and as hereafter amended, <br />and shall be healthy, vigorous and well- formed, with well - developed, fibrous root <br />systems, free from dead branches or roots. Plants shall be free from damage caused by <br />temperature extremes, pre - planting or on -site storage, lack of or excess moisture, <br />insects, disease, and mechanical injury. Plants in leaf shall be well foliated and of good <br />color.
