Wt <br />A <br />PA RECREATION <br />ARTS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES <br />February 10, 2018 9:00 a.m. Tukwila Community Center <br />1. Call to Order: Chair Cynthia Chesak called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. <br />2. Attendance: <br />Commissioners — Trish Gilmore, Cynthia ' Villella Brian Kennedy, Sheila Coppola, Daniel <br />Humkey and Yuriko Rollins <br />Absent: Helen Enguerra <br />Guests: Carolyn Law, Lesley Bain <br />Staff — Tracy Gallaway <br />3. Approval of Agenda: Sheila Coppola moved to accept the agenda. Brian Kennedy seconded the <br />motion. The motion passed unanimously. <br />4. Approval of Minutes: Sheila Coppola moved to app <br />Gilmore seconded the motion. <br />5. Unfinished Business <br />a. Review the final draft of "Tukwila Arts" (Municipal Arts Plan) & discuss next steps. <br />Consultants Carolyn Law and Lesley Bain reviewed the final document with the Arts <br />Commissioners. Tracy Gallaway shared that the consultants are under a new contract to <br />assist with creating an implementation plan and communication plan for Tukwila Arts. This <br />plan will include identifying potential projects for plan areas Southcenter Business District, <br />Tukwila International Boulevard, Tukwila Village and the river. They will also be proposing <br />3 potential community events. <br />Establish a 2018 workplan, budget and sub -committee assignments — Tracy Gallaway <br />distributed a draft workplan document and spending plan based upon 2017 activities. <br />There was discussion regarding how the Arts Commission general fund budget should be <br />utilized in accordance with the Tukwila Arts plan document and 1% funding for arts. <br />Commission Chair Cynthia Chesak explained 2018 will be a pilot year as we work out the <br />projects and the funding details for each budget area. It was also agreed that the 2018 <br />sub -committees would be Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Outreach. The theme for 2018 <br />Arts Commission work will be "Be Visible". Arts Commissioners will be <br />c. Finalize Arts Commission logo —The commissioners agreed they preferred design #5 with <br />some minor adjustments. Daniel will provide a final design at the March 21St Arts <br />Commission meeting, including options for both a black/white design and a version using <br />blue for the color. Ideas will be exchanged via email, with the final design vote occurring at <br />the March meeting. <br />d. Rotating Art Display Wall at TCC — Trisha Gilmore shared the challenges she has had <br />regarding securing artists for the display wall. It was decided that the Senior painting class <br />would be asked to display art work in March and/or April, the proposed May display would <br />be from students in the Tukwila School District, and the next open slot for the display wall <br />he minutes of January'17, 2018.
