III. GOALS & OBJECTIVES: <br />The District and Tukwila PD share the common goal of ensuring responsible juvenile <br />behavior. The SRO Program is designed to form a partnership between the school <br />administration, teachers, faculty, students, parents, and members of the Tukwila PD toward <br />that end. Specific goals and objectives of the SRO Program include, but are not limited to: <br />1. Enhance safety while minimizing criminal activity on and around school campus <br />2. Alleviate tension and fear brought on by criminal activity on or around <br />school campus <br />3. Establish and maintain a positive working relationship in a cooperative <br />effort with staff to prevent juvenile delinquency and assist in student <br />development <br />4. Identify youth in danger of becoming known to the criminal justice system, <br />and help teach and steward those students to choose more positive and <br />socially acceptable ways to behave <br />5. Enhance communication and understanding between students, their <br />families, the District staff, and the Tukwila PD <br />6. Create a greater understanding and respect for law and order in the <br />public school system <br />7. Promote positive attitudes regarding the police role in society <br />8. Reduce the need for Police Patrol Division response to the schools <br />IV. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: <br />In order to collaboratively promote, build, and maintain a highly successful SRO Program, <br />the following roles, responsibilities, and expectations include, but are not limited to: <br />TUKWILA SCHOOL DISTRICT: <br />1. Provide a safe work space and necessary office equipment for the SRO to <br />conduct interviews, maintain confidential records, and successfully carry out <br />his/her daily duties <br />2. Assist in outlining mechanisms for incorporating the SRO into the <br />school environment, programs, and daily operations <br />3. Establish standing meetings with the SRO and school safety teams <br />4. Ensure that staff cooperates with police investigations and any subsequent <br />actions related to crime or criminal activity on campus <br />5. Work with school administrators in identifying problems and <br />evaluating progress under the ILA <br />6. Operate with the understanding that school code of conduct <br />violations and routine discipline of students remains the <br />responsibility of school administrators <br />Page2of7 <br />
