✓ Officers encountered an encampment at Tukwila Park, were able to help some folks relocate to <br />Riverton United Methodist Church <br />✓ Codiga Park — concern about negative activities going on there <br />✓ Can officers patrol there more and show a presence? <br />✓ Sabey is also having uses and needs extra patrols <br />o Where to store COPCAB minutes? <br />✓ Should they be published on Facebook? <br />✓ Where could a link be put so the public can see them? Deputy Chief Lund will look into this <br />✓ Are there any public disclosure issues with our discussions and use of names? <br />✓ Do our public minutes need to be less specific so there isn't a problem of publishing names <br />mentioned as problems? <br />✓ Can we get the minutes more in advance? <br />✓ Deputy Chief Lund will send out the by-laws <br />o Community Engagements <br />✓ CPT team met with Hotel Interurban/Airmark to talk about an increase in crime <br />✓ Marvelle has had officers come in to do a safety presentation <br />✓ Officers have had meetings with Holden, the new memory care facility <br />✓ Property around Sabey has become a hot spot and needs more emphasis patrols. It is hard to catch <br />car prowlers in action. <br />✓ Officers have monthly meetings with Cascade Behavioral Hospital <br />o Miscellaneous <br />✓ Uptick in shoplifts — need extra security <br />✓ TPD is planning for implementation of the new legislation effective 7/25/21. They are working on a <br />plan for this. <br />o Hard to get applicants for the force? Why? <br />✓ Some may be leaving to go to other departments. Why? <br />• Some are leaving for personal reasons — moving, etc. <br />• Signing bonus — Renton $20,000, Bellevue - $25,000, Tukwila - $5,000 <br />✓ 20 applicants for entry level position in one month — used to be 1,000 applicants <br />✓ Bonuses have time requirements — often a 3 -year commitment to the force <br />✓ Starting pay for entry officer? About $75-80k <br />✓ Rank in the area in terms of pay? Hard to say because it is based on population, number of calls, etc. <br />We are on the lower end. Other departments have more incentives — cars, retirement, health care, <br />etc. <br />✓ Who makes the decision about terms of employment? Union and city agree on who the <br />comparables are. HR director and Guild. <br />o How was the 4th of July? <br />✓ Less calls than last year — 33 this year, 56 last year. <br />✓ Worst year for fireworks — booms all night <br />✓ Extra officers on duty Saturday and Sunday for fireworks calls <br />✓ Nothing caught on fire <br />• Good Of The Order: <br />o John — Wife says the Justice Center is very inviting and utilitarian in appearance. His wife also said it is <br />beautiful inside. Once it is open, it will be active and welcoming. <br />✓ Deputy Chief Lund said that as of July 6, the police side is open. Masks are still required.
