INFORMATIONAL MEMO
Page 2
DISCUSSION
We believe in the trusted advocate model, connecting with our community through
partnerships with organizations that have preexisting relationships with the communities that
we want to serve through our wellness hub. We will be partnering with the following groups
because of their deep connections within the community.
• Global to Local
• Food Innovation Network
• Tukwila School District
We will also utilize the City of Tukwila Human Service Department as a consultant. Our sister
city department has expertise in connecting area residents with critical social services.
The first goal for our community wellness hub is to learn from our community what their needs
are rather than making assumptions. Within the first six months, the City of Tukwila plans to
use surveys and focus groups in multiple languages to learn what works best for our diverse
community and identify where they have the greatest needs. We also intend to evaluate how
well our community is being served by existing health and nutrition programs within the
community, what gaps may exist, and what locations work best to provide services.
After concluding our research, we plan to form an advisory committee of residents to help
guide our work. These members could be drawn from survey and focus group participants and
would reflect the demographics of our community. Further informed by our research we will
map out a plan for our initial launch including scheduling several high-profile events throughout
the year. After the completion of our first year of operations, we will do a 360 analysis of the
program and make any necessary adjustments.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no matching requirement for the City. If approved, this will be included in the year-end
budget amendment.
NRPA will issue funds according to the following schedule:
Total funds ($90,000) will be distributed in three parts:
a) $45,000 - Within thirty (30) days upon execution of the MOU
b) $40,000 - Within thirty (30) days upon submission of report 1 in December of 2022
c) $5,000 - Within thirty (30) days upon submission of report 2 in January of 2024
RECOMMENDATION
The Council is being asked to authorize the Mayor to sign the Memorandum of Understanding
and consider this item for the consent agenda at the July 18, 2022 Regular Meeting
ATTACHMENT
Memorandum of Understanding
2
