Tukwila Tree and Environment Advisory Committee — Meeting Notes <br />Meeting 1, September 26' 2012 <br />Committee Members in Attendance: Nancy Eklund, Christian Faltenberger, De'Sean Quinn, Stephen Reilly, <br />Don Scanlon, David Shumate, Heidi Watters, Kathleen Wilson <br />Members of the Public in Attendance: Kelli Turner, Barry Crosby <br />Staff in Attendance: Nora Gierloff, Carol Lumb, Sandra Whiting <br />The meeting began at 6 pm. <br />Topics of Discussion: <br />1. Introductions of committee members and staff <br />2. Public comment: (Time will be set aside at the beginning of each meeting for brief public comments; <br />the Committee is meeting in work session format, therefore, questions or comments from the public <br />that come up during the course of the meeting should be directed to staff via e-mail or telephone calls <br />after the meeting.) <br />There was no public comment <br />3. Housekeeping issues and operating procedures: <br />a. The December meeting will be on December 19tH <br />b. Meetings will begin at 6 pm until further notice <br />c. The committee roster with contact information will be distributed to all members <br />d. Materials for the committee will be mailed out as hard copy and by email with links to the <br />documents on the City's website. Staff will try to have materials sent out 2 weeks before each <br />meeting. <br />e. Meeting notes will be posted on the City's website after distribution to committee members. <br />The meetings will also be taped — the audio file will be made available upon request. <br />f. Committee will operate by consensus, but Robert's Rules of Order will be used, if needed to <br />move issues along. Strong minority opinions on recommendations will be forwarded on to the <br />Planning Commission and Council. <br />4. Powerpoint presentation on planning authority in Washington, Committee context and role, starting <br />point of this project, why trees and tree policies are important, next steps. <br />5. General discussions <br />a. Tree City USA criteria <br />b. Existing ordinances related to vegetation and sensitive areas and related to landscaping <br />requirements and issues with their implementation. <br />c. Source of push for changes to ordinances and improvement of tree /landscaping regulations and <br />likelihood for Council support of Committee's recommendations. <br />d.
