B. SCOPE OF WORK <br />Task 1: Waste Prevention Program <br />Proiect Description: <br />In 1997 and potentially in 1998, the City will organize and promote a community -wide waste <br />prevention event that will consist of residents holding yard -sales at their homes on the same <br />weekend. The City will publicize the event(s) through mailings, yard -signs and newspaper <br />advertising, and will stress the value of reuse and waste prevention. <br />Proiect Goal: <br />The goal of the event(s) is to publicize the recycle /reuse message to residents and ultimately <br />to limit the amount of material going to the landfill by providing an organized alternative. <br />Deliverables: <br />copies of all materials sent to participating residents <br />copies of promotional information <br />Proiect Evaluation: The City will evaluate the event(s) by undertaking the following: <br />track the numbers of materials the City distributes <br />track the number of sites/households which sign -up to participate in the event <br />prepare and distribute a survey form to each participating site/household to gauge the <br />potential waste prevention impacts of the event <br />Task 2: Residential Program <br />Subtask 2A: Compost Bin/Materials Distribution Project/ GrasscycIing <br />Promotion/Green Garden Pilot Class <br />Proiect Description: <br />a. The City will distribute up to 50 subsidized recycled plastic compost bins to residents at a <br />Special Recycling Collection Event and/or a special event at the Tukwila Compost <br />Demonstration Garden. The City has already purchased 34 compost bins, and will <br />purchase an additional 16 bins with the County's WR/R grant funds. The City will <br />publicize the event(s) through mailings to residents and/or advertisements in newspapers. <br />b. The City will cooperate with other jurisdictions to develop a promotional/educational <br />grasscycling campaign involving some or all of the following: print materials, direct mail, <br />bus boards, radio, TV, world wide web page, distribution of subsidized grasscycling <br />lawnmowers, and/or other means. A consultant, Pacific Rim, has been hired to provide <br />this campaign. The City may also prepare and distribute additional promotional and/or <br />educational materials which stress the value of home composting and grasscycling as <br />environmentally friendly alternatives to curbside yard waste collection and to self hauling <br />yard waste. <br />2 <br />
