SECTION 4.5 Standby. The Employer and the Association agree that the <br />use of standby time shall be minimized consistent with sound law <br />enforcement practices and the maintenance of public safety. Standby <br />assignments shall be for a fixed, pre -determined period of time not to <br />exceed ten (10) hours. Employees formally placed on standby status shall <br />be compensated on the basis of five (5) hours straight time pay for ten (10) <br />hours of standby or fraction thereof. If the employee is actually called back <br />to work, normal overtime rules shall apply. Compensation for standby shall <br />not be paid in addition to overtime -minimum pay. <br />SECTION 4.6 Compensatory Time. Compensatory time is defined as time <br />off granted an employee as compensation for hours worked in addition to <br />the employee's scheduled workday or workweek. <br />A. Requesting Compensatory Time. <br />It is the responsibility of the employee to request compensatory time <br />in lieu of overtime if so desired. The Employer shall have discretion <br />to determine whether compensatory time is granted to the employee <br />when compensatory time is requested by the employee in lieu of <br />overtime. <br />B. Compensatory Time Rate. <br />The granting of compensatory time in lieu of overtime will be at the <br />rate of one -and -one-half hours for each overtime hour worked. <br />C. Maximum Compensatory Time Accrual <br />Individual accrual of compensatory time in lieu of overtime shall not <br />exceed forty-eight (48) hours (i.e. 32 hours at time -and -one-half). <br />SECTION 4.7 Kelly Days.
